OXFAM is looking for a dynamic and ambitious Public Health Engineer to take on a new and exciting position within its host community programme. Currently Oxfam is working in Balqa Governorate with a small emergency programme assisting Syrian refugees. However aims to expand with longer term programming assisting both refugees and vulnerable Jordanians. The position is a senior role within Oxfam team and will be responsible for leading the development of the water and sanitation component. The post holder will be expected to work closely with water authorities, local municipalities and internally with Oxfam's public health promotion/outreach team.
The post holder is expected to have good understanding of the water, sanitation and sewage infrastructure in country, understand and be able to apply minimum technical standards, ideally having experience with a prior INGO with community based experience.
Job grade is C2 with salary band 1,750 2,292 JD gross / month
Contracts of employment will be for 12 months extendable subject to funding
DIMENSIONS:
• Assessment of the public health situation of the people affected by the Syrian crisis, including assessing the longer term water needs for Jordanians hosting refugees
• Influence and develop effective networks with external bodies (Water Authority, municipalities, private companies, local and INGOs, other WASH players etc..)
• Lead the design of PHE work in Oxfam’s host community programme - this includes integration with existing public health promotion and food security/livelihoods work.
• Provide professional advice to the PM on public health situation and assist in overall programme design, strategy and proposal writing
• Supervise resources within defined boundaries or a specialist area, which may include people, assets and/or budgets.
• Where appropriate, ensure beneficiaries participation and consultation through the use of participatory approaches
• Integration within team and with other sectors (PHP, EFSL, protection/gender & advocacy) to produce maximum benefit and impact
• Develops solutions to diverse and complex problems within organisational policy.
• Interprets and applies operational and specialist information in a variety of formats from a variety of sources.
• Technical oversight and decision-making to further the objectives of Oxfam
